A one sided love affair
Are you having a one sided love affair with your business?
I hear a lot of people saying they “love” their business – usually as an excuse for why they work 24/7.
If your business gives you everything you need in return for your love you can stop reading now and go back to it.
………
You want more?
However much you love your business it can never love you back, so you need to be getting something else out of this relationship.
“It’s not about the money” is another phrase I hear a lot. Usually from people who aren’t making any, but want to carry on doing what they’re doing, hoping things will get better.
If you’re happy to work for no money or just scrape a living that’s fine. But it doesn’t have to be like that.
If you want to run a business and make money doing something you love, it can be done, but it may need some tough decisions.
A lot of it is about pricing, finding clients who really value you what you do and are happy to pay for it. Some of it is about not doing everything yourself but making enough money to pay someone else to do the things you don’t like doing or that take you much longer than someone who knows how to do them well (bookkeeping is usually one of those things). Sometimes it’s automation, getting great processes or recurring income streams that allow you take time off while you’re still making money.
The main reason people start their own business is to have freedom and choice to do the things that really matter to them so if that’s not working for you and things feel a bit one sided, let me know if you’d like to talk about it.
What is it you really want from your business?
P. S. I don’t give relationship advice :)
