Are you working for your future self?

Present You wants a quick fix, instant gratification, rewards right now.

Future You demands harder choices.

Before you make promises to Future You, answer this:

Why do you care?

When you care enough about Future You to stick to the promises you make, you’ll swat away the temptations that Present You whispers in your ear.

When you walk around the supermarket and choose healthy food but grab a chocolate bar at the checkout, you don’t care enough about Future You to break your bad habits.

Can you find a way to give Present You some rewards for working towards Future You?

People who jog to get healthy often log into an app that shows how much progress they’ve made, and they get rewarded with a smiley face, or they can see how they’ve improved by comparing themselves to others. They might not be the best but they’ve got an incentive to get better.

Is there a way to monitor your progress towards the behaviour you want to do more of by sharing it with others who are working towards a similar goal?

Could you give each other a reason to stay on track?

If you operate every day in favour of Future You, you’ll eventually achieve your goals.
