Time and money

A client who was feeling overwhelmed just asked for help in deciding what to spend time on and what to let go.

When we’d finished our session and he was feeling more in control I was reminded yet again that time and money are the two things that small business owners struggle with the most.

The big difference is that money is unlimited and time is very firmly fixed.

No matter how much money you have, you only have the same 24 hours in a day as everyone else.

You can buy time by paying other people to do things for you but it still comes back to you deciding how to spend your own 24 hours.

Unlike money you can’t borrow it or lend it or multiply it. When its gone, its gone.

And if the amount of money you earn is closely related to the time you spend working, then you better spend it on the right things!

A good trick to get into the right habits is to decide how much your time is worth when you’re doing your most profitable activities.

Every time you feel tempted to give your time away or waste it on something that’s not important to you, ask if the person or activity you’re donating your money to is really worth it.

For some reason, wasting money makes us think harder than wasting time.

If you’re struggling to figure out how to use your time profitably let me know and I’ll help you fix it.
