I’m taking part in a writing excercise: #VSS365
The challenge is to write a Very Short Story every day for a year.
Every day, one of the @FlashDogs team posts a word prompt on Twitter and anyone can join in, writing a very short story (a tweet) that is inspired by that word and including it in the tweet with a hashtag.
It’s a great writing excercise and also a great discipline to write something every day!
I share my offerings on Twitter @AnnHawkins and I’m keeping a record of them here to see how far I get! Let me know if you’ve got a favourite 🙂

Whenever he wanted things done his way he would say, in a tetchy, arrogant manner, “I have 20 years experience!” He expected everyone to be impressed but they mostly just thought he had some experience 20 years ago that he was uselessly #repeating #VSS365

#Saturn is opposing Venus, warned the astrologer. You shouldn’t make any changes. I’m the goddess of love, said Venus, why would anyone oppose me? Have him oppose Mars and his wars instead. Um… said the astrologer turning his chart sideways. I’ll see what I can do … #VSS365

The smoke from the fire in the middle of the hall made her cough. She instructed a man to build a new hearth in the corner with a chimney to catch the smoke. They added seats and enjoyed the warmth without the smoke. They named it #ingelnook. Her name was forgotten #VSS365

My dad was in the #army. He marched at the head of his regiment wearing a kilt and bearskin, carrying the mace. He was in Egypt when the 2nd world war ended. Like many, he never said much about it. He was a kind man but we were always a bit of a mystery to each other. #VSS365

I’m gruntled and gusted. This cussion is going nowhere. You were scrutable and debunked all the myths you had previously bunked. Your story was full of crepancies. Booked a motel cognito. You were going out with prefixes behind my back! Now I’m #discombobulated. #VSS365

Persistently #perky Penelope paced past pathways patiently plucking plants. Perfumed petals poisoned, polluted. Perky Penelope paused. Pondered. Paled. Passed. #VSS365

Amorpha is a genus of plants in the pea family. #Amphora is a type of pot from the Neolithic Period. If you put an amorpha in an amphora you’d have a pea in a pot. #VSS365

She stood at the door of the farmhouse breathing in the crisp clear air. The #mistral had scoured the valley clean, moving the clouds and polution to leave clear, sparkling skies. She picked up her paints and easel and set out to create her own impression. #VSS365

I used to tell my son off for swearing. Then he taught me how to do it. It felt good. Now I swear fit to make a sailor #blush. I’m really, really good at it.
Want some? #VSS365
